§When problems such as cracking, distortions or unacceptable indications or properties appear on parts, the Barnes Aerospace team looks to its process and quality engineers to help determine root causes and develop corrective and preventive actions. If they require additional data to get to the root cause, they would enlist the support of Barnes Aerospace Research and Development (R&D) Lab, located in Windsor, Connecticut.
The lab's metallographic microscopes and the X-ray residual stress analyzer provide data to narrow down the possible root cause, and determine whether the problem is being caused by a manufacturing process or other possibilities, including vendor machining, vendor heat treat or joining, or raw materials. The engineers then help identifying a solution.
Customers have come to rely on the objective approaches to problem solving that the lab team employs and our engineers can talk with customers' technical staff with the same level of detail that is required -- metallurgist to metallurgist, quality engineer to quality engineer.
